What is the role: Cathedral Guide
Who is the role for: Christ Church Cathedral Oxford
When are volunteers required: We are looking to recruit a number of volunteers as we are looking for guides available each day, 10:30 – 16:30. Volunteers typically give 2 hours a week but scheduling is flexible.
Where does the volunteering take place: At the cathedral in St Aldates. This is one of the oldest in Oxford, having been constructed in the 12th Century.
What the role involves: Welcoming visitors to the Cathedral, answering their many questions, and keeping an eye on both the fabric of the building and visitor behaviour. There are also opportunities to carry out guided tours.
Why you should sign up: You will be working in a stunning building and joining a friendly team of volunteers who enjoy meeting and helping people. Meeting and helping people is rewarding in itself but you will also learn a lot about cathedral and university life, the rich history of England, and our religious heritage.
Skills required for this role: There are no particular skills but we are looking for people who have an interest in at least one of the following: the Anglican Church, English history, historic building, the university, meeting visitors (many of whom are from abroad)
You will receive full training via an initial meeting with an experienced volunteer, a guided tour, information pack and shadowing for 2 – 3 sessions.
What to do if you are interested: Contact Graham Maynard by email. He will then ring you to explain the opportunity and invite you to come and discuss the opportunity in person. Graham’s email is: firstname.lastname@example.org
