Who is the role for: The Well Community Café at Bicester Salvation Army
When does the volunteering take place: Tuesday’s 9.15 – 1.30pm and Thursday’s 9.15 – 1.30pm
Where does the volunteering take place: The Salvation Army, Hart Place, Bicester, OX26 4FR
What does the role involve: The café serves breakfasts, hot drinks, cake, sandwiches, wraps, toasties etc. The café is very family orientated and includes a bouncy castle and lots of toys, dressing up etc for pre-school kids.
This role involves greeting customers, taking orders, taking payment, preparing food and drinks and then serving the food. You’ll be working in a team of two or three people in the kitchen and can progress to cooking the breakfasts if you wish! See our Facebook page @thewellbicester
Why you should sign up to this role: This role would really suit someone who wants a friendly but busy place to work. It would also work really well for someone who wants some experience in the catering or hospitality sector. Would you like to end up working in a café or restaurant or even owning your own? Do you want to work in catering but need more experience? This would be a great introduction for you. We can provide the food hygiene training you’ll need too. And by volunteering with The Salvation Army, you’ll be helping us to help others who are lonely, homelessness or just struggling with life. If you want a chat about it, just give us a call.
Skills required for this role:
- Friendly disposition towards customers.
- Ability to work in a team (take instruction, muck in, disagree nicely etc.)
- Able to work safely in a commercial kitchen
- Ability to handle money, add up and calculate change.

Please note that due to the nature of this role references are required. Travel expenses are paid for people who can make a long term commitment to volunteering. You will be provided with training needed for your role. You are asked to commit to at least one session a week.
