Support a fantastic community charity whilst getting in the Christmas spirit as a carol concert steward

What is the role: Carol Concert Steward           carols

Who for:  Maggie’s Oxford

When: 8th December, 6pm – 9:30pm. THIS IS A ONE-OFF EVENT.

Where:  St Michael’s and All Angels Church, Summertown (very easily accessible by bus)

What is involved: We would love some volunteers to help us set up, meet and greet and help people find their way around, and help with tidying away at the end. No experience needed, just energy and enthusiasm.

This is a one off event but we have events throughout the year, so if you enjoy this one there will be lots of other opportunities for you to get involved with!

Why you should sign up:  We are a charity that is rooted in the community, so it’s easy to see exactly what sort of difference your help will make. The Carol Concert is the culmination of our fundraising events and is well-loved by our Centre visitors as an opportunity to celebrate what we have done for them over the year. Our Centre is a unique place where people with cancer can access specialist information and advice, in a homely  environment, and being a part of our fundraising events as a volunteer steward, you will really catch that ‘warm fuzzy feeling’, since the enthusiasm towards our work is infectious!

Tickets for the event are £10, but as a volunteer, you will be able to hear the beautiful carols and interesting readings from a host of notable members of the local community, all for free.

You’ll get practical experience of the logistical side of working in events, which is invaluable for a CV if you’re looking to go into events management or charity work – especially as joining our team will mean we’ll keep in touch with further opportunities and the chance to organise your own events too.

We also have a Birthday Party celebration every October where we invite anyone who has supported over the last year – while this is quite a way off, if you help us you will be warmly invited to this exclusive special event which is part-party (there was lots of free wine, cheese and cake this year!), part-networking event.

You’ll also get a t-shirt to keep, and the first pick of the festive refreshments available on the night!

Skills required: No specific skills, we’re looking for friendly and enthusiastic people!

But we’d advise you wear comfy shoes as you might be on your feet for a while at the beginning and the end.

Support available:

  • As this role is a one off there is no specific training, but you can attend an optional welcome afternoon to find out more
  • If you can only help with setting up or clearing away, that’s fine – the role is really flexible so any time you have to spare is appreciated

This role does NOT require a DBS check or references.

How to get involved:  Simply email or phone Anna on 01865 759955
