Calling older residents of Oxford who would like to mentor an Oxford Academy student

What is the role: Senior Partner (ideally someone 60+ who has time to volunteer with school students)

Who for: The Oxford Academyold school.png

When: 1 hour once a fortnight, even better if you can volunteer every week

Where: The Oxford Academy, Sandy Lane West, Littlemore, Oxford, OX4 6JZ

What is involved: Volunteers will be partnered with a student. During meetings both partners will have the opportunity to benefit, from dealing with issues such as bullying, low self-confidence and social isolation to learning new skills, becoming more active and making friends within the old school community.

Why you should sign up: So many reasons! This role will provide you with new friendships which is so important to wellbeing and reducing loneliness. You will learn new skills as your student partner can teach you how to email or text for example, whilst being able to share your lifetime of experience with them.

Skills required: No specific skills are required. You will be paired with a student based on shared interests and experiences, so that you have plenty in common to talk about

Support provided: You will be provided with training before working with the students. You will be invited to school events to thank you for your contribution and be a real part of the Old School Community.

Please note that because you will be working with young people a DBS check will need to be complete and references are required.

How to get involved: Email: oldschool@theoxfordacademy.org.uk or phone Hannah Jamieson on 01865 774311 (Mon – Thu 9:30-14:30)
