Independent Visitors for children and young people

NYAS is a national children’s rights charity working in partnership with Children’s Services across the UK, we recruit, train and support adult volunteers to be Independent Visitors for children and young people who are looked-after by their local authority. Independent visitors act as befrienders to young people in care offering them positive activities and role models within their lives.

We are looking to recruit more volunteers that have patience, flexibility, determination to make a difference, have a non-judgmental attitude and a good sense of humor. You will need to commit a few hours each month for a minimum of two years. In return for your commitment we will give you training, on-going support as well as a budget to cover fun activities and travel expenses

You don’t need any special qualifications, just a child focused approach, the ability to organize activities and be able to provide advice and a listening ear.

Independent Visitors can be the only non-paid adult in a looked after child’s life. We are looking for a diverse range of volunteers that we can match with our diverse range of young people. If you think this is something that you can help us with and would like to part of our growing team of volunteers please do get in touch. Email or call 01296 432540 or visit our website

I look forward to hearing from you soon
