Oxfordshire County Council – Fire and Rescue Service

Footsteps training volunteer

The aim of the programme is to reduce numbers of children injured and killed in road traffic accidents by improving their awareness of risks on the road. Footsteps volunteers deliver a presentation to parents and lead them through a child pedestrian safety walk. Footsteps volunteers deliver the program during prearranged sessions at Oxfordshire primary schools. Initially volunteers will shadow an experienced trainer while they deliver the program.

Footsteps training events are frequently delivered towards the end of the school day. Sessions last for One and a half hours. Volunteers are welcome to arrange their hours of work in discussion with their Road safety Officer. The area in which they volunteer is also open for discussion to ensure the schools covered are accessible. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
