Active Body Healthy Mind (an Oxfordshire Mind and the Oxfordshire Sports Partnership initiative) provides a range of sports and physical activity opportunities for people with a mental health condition.
Active Body Healthy Mind (ABHM) peer supporters use their experience to support people to achieve their fitness goals in an equal relationship, working in partnership for mutual benefit.
In order to apply for this role you need to have personal lived experience of mental health problems and being willing to share this with others.
Volunteering as a Peer Supporter you will…
Use your own experience of mental health problems in a meaningful and positive way
Help others by offering encouragement, empathy and understanding
Work with the participant, identifying and taking part in activities that you both are interested in
Accompany the participant 1 to 1 to enable them to access the activity
Help participants to complete and return feedback forms
Liaise with venue staff and activity head coaches
Develop skills in communication, leadership and teamwork
Receive ongoing training and support
Are you interested in sport?
Do you have personal lived experience of mental health and emotional distress?
Are you empathetic with a good awareness of you own health needs?
We ask for a commitment of one session per week (1-2 hours) for a minimum of three months.
